Bormio, in the heart of the Alta Valtellina region, is the starting point of the Eastern Route of the Marian Way of the Alps. From the parish church of Saints Gervasius and Protasius, located in Piazza Cavour (also known as Piazza del Kuerc), right in the historic center of the town, the route quickly leads to the Combo Bridge, another undisputed symbol of Bormio, which takes you to the Church of Sassello—privately owned—offering some interesting panoramic views.

The second stage of the Cammino largely overlaps with the Sentiero Valtellina, the cycling and walking path that crosses the province of Sondrio from Bormio to Colico, following the course of the Adda River.

The third and final stage of the Eastern Route begins at the Sanctuary of Grosotto. From here, the route crosses the village toward the Grosotto lakes, an area known for sport fishing, and then continues along the Orobic side of the valley floor, following for a stretch the same path as the “Sentiero dei Castelli” (Path of the Castles).
